The Salvation Army needs you

Posted by on Mon, Dec 14, 2009 at 2:54 PM

From the listings desk: The economy is not helping this season's Red Kettle Campaign. According to a recent press release, the fundraiser is 40 percent off-pace in its effort to reach a $700,000 goal by Christmas.

For those short on spare change, the Salvation Army has accepted other goodies dropped in the buckets. In past years, someone apparently donated an engagement ring (ouch) and even teeth (seriously?).

In a less macabre gesture, one local dropped two gold coins at a Wal-Mart on Woodmen Road earlier this month. Each coin is valued at about $120.
