Word is coming from Denver and Washington that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has decided to remain in his Cabinet position, meaning he will not return to Colorado and run for governor in 2010.
That opens the way for Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper to step in as the Democrats' top candidate after the withdrawal Tuesday of Gov. Bill Ritter, who decided against pursuing a second term.
Salazar released a statement this morning saying he is endorsing Hickenlooper, saying, "John Hickenlooper is a uniter. He transcends political and geographic divides to bring people together to develop solutions."
Sounds like a done deal.
