The palindrome bug

If you haven’t noticed, today’s date — 01.11.10 — is, in fact, a palindrome, which means it reads the same both backward and forward. (In this case, it also reads the same upside down and right-side up, but there's no word for that.)

If my calculations are correct, this extremely rare occurrence is almost guaranteed to bring about the worldwide disaster originally predicted for the year 2000, aka Y2K, aka massive computer collapse and end of civilization as we know it.

So far, though, nothing.

But just in case, I’ll be spending the rest of the day holed up in Woodland Park with a stockpile of canned foods and my hand-cranked radio, which you can have when you pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
