Big spread in polls in U.S. Senate race

Posted By on Mon, Jan 18, 2010 at 5:20 PM

Depending on your pollster of choice, the numbers put U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet (a) 40-39 ahead, (b) 43-40 behind or (c) 45-36 behind Republican front-runner Jane Norton.

OK, the second set of numbers is referencing an internal poll from the Bennet campaign, but the picture emerging is pretty ... well, "fuzzy" would probably be the word.

And Bennet, of course, still faces a primary challenge against Andrew Romanoff, the former state House speaker.

Early campaign finance numbers paint Bennet's situation in a more favorable light; he raised more than $1 million in the last quarter of 2009, as compared to $550,000 reported by the Norton campaign. (The Denver Post has more on this.) Romanoff hasn't yet released his final numbers for 2009.
