Liston fights for lobbyists

Yes, many people have problems and need help, but leave it to Rep. Larry Liston of Colorado Springs to take a stand for a group that too often gets ignored: those poor lobbyists in Denver who must stand in security lines with the riff-raff before trying to pull the strings of power at the state Capitol.

Denver's 7 News reports on a chilly response on Tuesday to a bill from Liston that would have let lobbyists pay a fee and get a background check in order to waltz past security while doing their daily business.

"I did not realize there were going to be this many people wanting to testify, obviously I’ve ripped open a scab," Liston said.
One person who testified against the legislation referred to hearing the bill called the "Lexus lane for the lobbyists."

The bill apparently died in committee. Incidentally the story was reported by 7 News' Marshall Zelinger, who recently departed KRDO Newschannel 13 in Colorado Springs.
