Romanoff still lags in fundraising

Posted By on Mon, Feb 1, 2010 at 6:29 PM

When Andrew Romanoff recently held a press conference in Denver to announce his reenergized bid to be the Democratic nominee in Colorado's 2010 U.S. Senate race, a big unknown was how he would counter the huge, million-plus, fundraising numbers pulled in by his opponent, Sen. Michael Bennet.

The early word on Romanoff's latest numbers for the final three months of 2009 — $337,000 raised, with $479,000 in the bank — posted on the political Web site coloradopols.com is that it's too little, too late.

We'll have to see. At the same time, Romanoff, just announced some big names have joined his payroll: Joe Trippi, Patrick Caddell, Celinda Lake and Liz Chadderdon. Trippi is well-known for running Howard Dean's failed 2004 presidential bid, while Caddell has raised some eyebrows for his frequent role as Democratic Party whipping boy on FOX News.

While Romanoff has been revamping his campaign, Bennet racked up a fresh endorsement from the League of Conservation Voters.
