Big break for Vonn: ski events put off

Posted By on Sat, Feb 13, 2010 at 11:22 AM

No news was definitely the best news Saturday for U.S. skier LIndsey Vonn at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Because of continuing weather issues and the need to focus on preparing for the men's downhill race scheduled this afternoon, Vancouver organizers postponed another women's training run that had been planned this morning at Whistler.

Then, shortly after 11 a.m. Mountain time this morning, the men's downhill set for today also was postponed. It now is scheduled for Monday morning.

All of that was what Vonn wanted to hear, for two reasons. One, it gives the Vail resident yet another day for her deeply bruised right shin to recover. Two, and more importantly, it means the women's super-combined event set for Sunday (with downhill in the morning, followed by giant slalom in the afternoon) has been postponed because the competitors haven't had sufficient time to train on the actual courses.

There was no announcement Saturday on a new time for the women's super-combined, but it might have to wait until Tuesday or later.

The men's downhill postponement means U.S. veteran Bode Miller will have to wait another 48 hours for his first race here.
