Lindsey Jacobellis waited four years to redeem the most foolhardy mistake of her career, but the U.S. snowboarder came up short again today at the 2010 Winter Games.
Jacobellis, who is from Vermont but has trained in Telluride, was seconds away from the ladies snowboard cross gold medal in 2006 at Torino before hot-dogging her final jump, falling and settling for silver.
She had looked destined for gold today through qualifying and the quarterfinal round. But in the semifinals, she lost her balance early on the Cypress Mountain run, fell off the pace and inexplicably quit. She had plenty of time to catch up and only needed to make the top two in order to qualify for the finals.
Instead, Jacobellis is eliminated, along with the other two Americans in the event. She came back minutes later to win the consolation final without being pushed, but it doesn't mean any kind of medal.
