Marijuana industry responds

Posted By on Tue, Feb 23, 2010 at 12:43 PM

The Colorado Springs Medical Cannabis Council, which represents local dispensaries and growers, has responded to City Council's sudden plan to restrict the industry. This press release was sent out yesterday:

Today Colorado Springs City Council gave a directive to the City Attorney to create a resolution which will be voted on Tuesday regarding Medical Cannabis dispensaries. This initiative proposes a possible moratorium in addition to a number of zoning items to include distances from neighborhoods, schools, etc. This directive was given today at close of business for the Council and they were assured that the City Attorney could create this resolution by tomorrow's formal meeting.

Colorado Springs Medical Cannabis Council presented a draft ordinance just two weeks ago to set regulations within the Medical Cannabis industry. At that time City Council informed CSMCC that it would take months to process our ordinance; however this resolution will be considered for vote less than 24 hours from its initial discussion today. Tuesday’s initiative will affect dispensaries, growers, and most importantly patients.

Many patients and citizens within the Medical Cannabis industry will be in attendance Tuesday to make public comments. We have worked with City Council since October to coordinate our proposed ordinance in order for it to endure the public process. It is only fair that this possible moratorium be addressed by the public before any vote takes place.

We hope to see you at City Hall Tuesday, Feb. 23 at 1 p.m., to answer any questions you may have.
