A second wind

Posted By on Mon, Mar 1, 2010 at 5:52 PM

Tom Black, who retired as Colorado Springs Utilities energy officer earlier this year, is now working for the city of Fountain electric department.

As planning and engineering division manager, Black is paid $96,000. Not bad for someone who probably is drawing well over that from his Springs Utilities retirement after retiring from a job that paid roughly $200,000 a year.

Fountain utilities department chief Larry Patterson is thrilled to have Black on board after conducting an 18-month national search. One prime candidate rejected Fountain's offer, he says, to go to work in Alaska.

Black says he never intended to stop working when he retired from Springs Utilities, and is enjoying his new job, which began Feb. 8.
