Yes, I'm writing about community centers. Again.

Posted By on Sat, Mar 6, 2010 at 12:13 PM

Just in case I haven't drilled this into your heads enough: Our community centers are scheduled to close March 31. Neighborhoods are holding fundraisers to try and save them.

Now, in truth, City Council may very well fund these centers through the end of the year. But they'll likely only provide enough money for the absolute bare necessities. And in 2011, barring some miraculous economic turnaround, the centers will once again be on the chopping block. Point being: Long-term, community-based solutions are desperately needed. You can show your support by participating in some of the upcoming fundraisers. I compiled my most recent list here.

But I forgot a couple.

First off, the Recreation Services Lyrical Lounge will be held at the City Auditorium at 6 p.m. on March 12. Donations for the centers will be collected at the door.

Second, you can pre-order the "Life is Better with Community Centers" T-shirt to show you care. Sizes small through XXL are $10. The XXXL is $13. Checks should be made payable to "EON Studios." Call 385-7900 for more information.
