Springs wins diversity prize ... no, really

Oooo, shiny.
  • Oooo, shiny.

Colorado Springs is the winner of a diversity prize from the National League of Cities.

The award is no doubt the result of a lot of hard work on the part of the Colorado Springs Diversity Forum (which includes the Indy's own Jay Patel). That group was established in 2005 and has worked hard to change the national image of the Springs as a white, Christian-conservative bastion of intolerance. The group started the annual "Everybody Welcome" diversity festival (that's the one City Council originally refused to sponsor because gay-friendly groups would be included).

Anyway, apparently our image is improving. Now if only we could just get one of our state senators (we're talking about you, Mr. Keith King) to stop calling our minority children "colored kids."
