Compost and spice

Two recent food bits out of Denver:

First: Denver International Airport just implemented a composting program for all the restaurants in Jeppesen Terminal and employee break rooms. The move follows a successful pilot project from last year. Recycling company A1 Organics will man some 20 containers with a 65-gallon capacity each.

Second: Denver Savory Spice Shop owner Janet Johnston has filmed six episodes of a new show premiering April 24 on the Food Network called Spice & Easy.

Johnston and her husband own four SSS locations in Denver, Littleton, Boulder and Lowry Town Center, and they franchised the Colorado Springs shop at 110 N. Tejon St.

From Food Network:

... Now, Janet is thrilled to share her spice savvy with Food Network viewers on Spice & Easy. Janet is passionate and very knowledgeable about spices, and she really wants to connect with fellow home cooks to demonstrate how simple it can be to reinvent classic dishes with a creative use of spices, proving that great seasonings can only enhance a meal. The series has already been shot — both in the Johnston’s home and in the Denver location of Savory Spice Shop. Six episodes will premiere 4/24 and run for consecutive weeks. In August 2008, Savory Spice Shop was featured on the Denver episode of Food Network’s Road Tasted with the Neelys as a standout local business. Since then, Janet and Mike have appeared on episodes of Paula’s Best Dishes and Down Home with the Neelys to cook up some of their favorite spice-filled delights.
