Yes, Record Store Day’s coming Saturday, which means lots of instore performances and specially released recordings on compact discs and tasty 7”/10”/12” vinyl. (What, no 8-tracks?)

We checked in with Matt Gehrung at Independent Records, who promises live performances at nearly all locations, especially the sprawling Platte Avenue store.

As for those Record Store Day special editions, look for vinyl releases by Them Crooked Vultures, Sonic Youth, Black Moth Super Rainbow, Soundgarden,
Pavement, Beastie Boys, Lacuna Coil, John Lennon and Jimi Hendrix — both recording from beyond the grave (no, not really) — Gorillaz, Yeasayer, and too many more to mention within the limited confines of cyberspace.

Matt also says to tell you that Independent Records blog their weekly vinyl purchases here and have also put up a big long list of Record Store Day titles they “may or may not be receiving.”

And don’t forget to check out the Record Store Day uber-site to learn about incredible performances taking place in big cities around the world that you'll never be able to go to.

Actually, you might want to skip that part.
