  • Smart schools go green.
The Princeton Review, in partnership with the U.S. Green Building Council, recently released a free, online Guide to 286 Green Colleges.

Among featured schools, Colorado College and 14 others received the highest possible guide rating of 99.

Some stats that contribute to that rating:

• 45 percent of food budget spent on local/organic food
• 5 percent of school energy obtained from renewable sources
• 100 percent of school cleaning products are green certified
• CC built the nation's first LEED-certified science center in 2005
• CC features a one-acre community garden that provides local, organic produce
• CC has implemented single-steam recycling and also composting of food waste
• CC annually host the State of the Rockies Conference, which evaluates environmental issues
