Jim Ciletti has been chosen as the next Pikes Peak Poet Laureate. Ciletti is the president of Poetry West and co-owner of Hooked on Books.
According to the press release sent by the library, Ciletti was selected "because of the success of his own work, his long history of service in bringing poetry to our community, his energy and passion, and his vision for projects and activities that will inspire and celebrate in the Pikes Peak region for the next two years."
Ciletti has published two books of poetry, won numerous awards for his work, and has already debuted the first chapter of his upcoming novel in a writing magazine. He also teaches creative writing classes at the Fremont Correctional Facility.
Ciletti's plans as poet laureate include launching a local poetry website and establishing poetry circles with readings in private homes, as well as promote local ethnic and cultural diversity through poetry events. From the release:
“I am virtually ecstatic about being appointed to be the Poet Laureate,” Ciletti said. “My goal is to help audiences, young and old alike, enjoy a new appreciation of poetry.”
A celebratory reception will be held Saturday, April 24, at 4:30 p.m. at the Penrose Library (20 N. Cascade Ave.). For more information on the PPPLP, visit pikespeakpoetlaureate.org.
