Just when you decide to become a Christian teenager, theLoft goes and changes its demographic.
New owners Uriah Werner and Jason Jackson have installed a wine/beer bar and, with the assistance of local music booker John “Shitty” Holdaway, are booking a variety of alt-country, bluegreass, indie-rock and pop acts into the venue.
“We are still good friends,” says Werner of theLoft cofounder Josh Martin, “but our style of music and basic business plan is very different.”
The venue, which is located at 2502 W. Colorado Ave in Old Colorado City, will now cater to audiences in their 20s and 30s, beginning with this coming Sunday’s show featuring Mason Reed and Broken Spoke.
Those who are obsessed with nomenclature— and really, who isn’t? — will be interested to know that:
(A) theLoft shall now be known as the Loft
(B) John Holdaway was nicknamed Shitty by his grandpa, and
(C) Uriah Werner was NOT named after the Dickens character, Uriah Heep.
“I was actually named after the 70's rock band and the Bible character,” says Werner.
