After more than two hours of input and debate, City Council voted 6-3 Tuesday evening to approve an ordinance that allows licensing of medical marijuana dispensaries in Colorado Springs.
The ordinance also takes care of the city's need to be in accordance with the just-passed state legislation (HB 1284) that requires any dispensaries to be licensed at the local level by July 1. Otherwise, they would have had to shut down and remain closed until August 2011.
The bill still hasn't been signed into law by Gov. Bill Ritter, but he has said he likely will sign it.
The ordinance, which was put together by a task force including two City Councilors (Tom Gallagher and Sean Paige) and representatives of the local MMJ community, is available here.
