City Gov How hot was it? No power peak yet

With temperatures soaring into the 90s today, Colorado Springs Utilities might have set a record for peak power usage. But by 3:30 p.m., the peak demand had reached to 840 megawatts, 23 megawatts below the previous record set in August 2007.
Despite the city-owned utility having a lower load due to businesses closing during the recession, Utilities spokesman Dave Grossman says a high demand from air conditioners could drive the peak load into orbit.
"We could see a hot summer day that might break the record," he says.
But today, cloud cover began moving in, diminishing the chances a record will be set on this date.
