Posted By on Wed, Jun 16, 2010 at 5:09 PM

The Colorado Farm and Art Market officially opened for its seventh season (until Oct. 16) Wednesday afternoon at America the Beautiful Park. Also catch CFAM markets on Saturdays at the Margarita at PineCreek.

There was music Wednesday from Bill LaReau; spring produce items like lettuces, spinach, leeks, garlic scapes and peas; breads, cheeses, meats, eggs and tamales; as well as an information booth where you can pay with a debit card and use SNAP/EBT.

And in other food news: I heard from several folks about a new local source for buying whole, bone-in chickens. Whitney's Fresh Birds, out of Calhan, is selling three- to four-pound birds for $13, with pickup available at the farm on weekends and in Colorado Springs on Tuesdays. According a Facebook note, the birds aren't fed antibiotics or hormones and are pastured on organic pasture with mobile pens. E-mail erictoddwhitney@gmail.com for more.
