Pikes Peak's photo op

Posted By on Wed, Jun 16, 2010 at 9:53 AM

The house I grew up in had a perfect front-and-center view of Pikes Peak right out the living room and kitchen windows. Not surprisingly, it became a sort of member of the family in a way, an omnipresent and striking part of the home landscape.

Most Springs residents have a relationship with the Peak like that, I bet. Local photographer Shaun Daggett feels that way too, and he's asking us to share our favorite views for his project, "365 Days of Pikes Peak."

"365," which began on June 1, will send Daggett — who also goes by "The Pikes Peak Guy" — to a new locale for a new shot of the Peak each day for a year. The final product, Daggett says, will be a fine art book, but likely some exhibitions as well.

And if you needed any further encouragement, take these facts from Daggett's site into consideration:

Pikes Peak is the most visited mountain in North America and the second most visited mountain in the world behind Japan’s Mount Fuji. And over a half-million people reach the summit house every year via the Pikes Peak Highway, Barr Trail or the Pikes Peak Cog Railway.

Write your Pikes Peak thoughts for Daggett on his Facebook page, facebook.com/pages/The-Pikes-Peak-Guy and watch his progress at mypeak365.com.
