Show me your funny papers

No matter what side of the fence you happen to be stuck on when it comes to Arizona's new immigration law, most of us figure we've got a pretty good idea how the actual legal process works. (Hint: Get off at Plymouth Rock, shoot up the Indians, and lock the door behind you.)

But, as it turns out, the whole "get in line" attitude tends to underestimate just how long the line is, or at least how arduous the legal immigration process is.

In fact, even bleeding heart liberals may be surprised to see just what a tangled web our INS bureaucracy has woven.

Commissioned by Reason, a magazine whose Libertarian readership is sharply divided on immigration issues, the inforgraphic offers an eye-opening assessment of a little-understood dilemma illustrated by cute caricatures.
