The city's about to get a little bit more colorful by way of 12 new public murals. Headed up by local artists Douglas Rouse and Mallori Rouse, the 12 Mural Project will cover six walls downtown and six others throughout the rest of the city. Three walls of the Warehouse Restaurant will serve as the project's cornerstone. According to the press release, work on the Warehouse murals is set to begin in the middle of this month, with estimated completion at the end of October.
A donation box will be affixed to each mural. (Yes, at first this seems odd for a piece of public art, but the boxes will collect the change of philanthropic viewers for local art nonprofits.)
The project is seeking artists to volunteer for the project. Artists must be at least 16 years old and highly committed to the mural; each mural will require 12 to 18 artists. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org for information. A preliminary application deadline is set for July 14. The Rouses are also seeking sponsorships, donations of paint, supplies, scissor lifts, supervisors and the like. Call Douglas at 201-1966 with questions.
