Fort Collins sales tax increases ... slightly

Posted by on Tue, Jul 20, 2010 at 5:10 PM

The Fort Collins Coloradoan reported Tuesday that the city is seeing a sales tax increase in the neighborhood of 0.3 percent, "in part, [due to] the medical marijuana industry, according to the city's sales tax report."

The report says that MMJ centers contributed $22,000 to the total retail sector fund of $32,000, which was an overall increase of 5.9 percent.

"We are definitely glad to have it. Every bit helps," says John Voss, the city's interim finance director, to the Coloradoan. "I would say it is making a difference, but we are certainly not going to balance our budget on it though."

Voss said, were it not for a one time audit assessment collected last year, the sales tax increase would have been 4.7 percent.
