Medical Marijuana / Marijuana Chief medical officer: Most cardholders are frauds

A Denver Post profile of Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ned Calonge included this interesting snippet:
Now he's mired in the medical-marijuana issue, which he wishes was called "herbal therapy" or "alternate care" so he wouldn't have to deal with it."I have a problem with substandard care and medical fraud," said Calonge, who spent a decade on the state Board of Medical Examiners and believes the majority of people getting medical marijuana cards don't need them.
Medical marijuana has been a distraction from what Calonge considers the more fulfilling parts of his job: making people healthier and guiding Coloradans through public health alarms without inciting panic. A bottle of hand sanitizer is near him most of the time, a symbol of last year's H1N1 scare.
As we recently reported, Calonge is also serving as the committee chair for the medical marijuana advisory board.
