Joe Garcia, president of Colorado State University-Pueblo since 2006 and head of Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs before that, will be introduced today as John Hickenlooper's running mate on the Democratic ticket for governor in the 2010 general election.
Media are reporting that Hickenlooper will make the announcement at midday in Denver.
Garcia, who ran the state Department of Regulatory Agencies during the latter years of former Gov. Roy Romer's tenure that ended in 1999, has strengthened his credentials since then in higher education. He was president of PPCC from 2001-2006 and also served on various community boards while living in Colorado Springs.
A graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder, Garcia earned his law degree at Harvard and later worked as a partner in the firm Holme Roberts & Owen's Colorado Springs office.
