Mayor Lionel Rivera has a new policy. Don't call him at the office.
After nearly eight years as mayor (he leaves office in April next year) and six years as a Council member, Rivera has had enough city-related phone calls at his UBS investment office. Or rather, UBS has had enough.
As he tells it, it's not fair for UBS to provide staff support for his city duties. Rivera's assistants often take messages from media and others who call him about city business. It's also a hassle to be interrupted before markets close at 2 p.m., although he didn't complain about that.
In fact, he says he's happy to take calls on his city phones, and noted he carries the city cell phone most of the time.
So, from now on, anyone wishing to discuss city business with the mayor should call his city numbers, which are 385-5453 (office) or 491-1383 (cell).
