IndyBlog would never sanction the tossing of beverages at musicians (or journalists, for that matter). Still, we do feel the need to share with you this video of Axl Rose and his band retreating from the stage some 20 minutes into their set last night.
Clearly, this has been a dangerous summer for superstars. Recent incidents include:
• Justin Bieber getting hit onstage with a water bottle
• Kings of Leon being shat on by pigeons
• And now, Guns 'N Roses being assaulted by plastic beer cups.
(Interestingly enough, Bieber was the only one who didn't flee the stage, unlike his more manly counterparts.)
So what went wrong?
It started out with the band coming onstage at Dublin, Ireland's O2 arena more than 40 minutes late (which is prompt by G'NR standards.)
They then open the set with a bunch of pointless solo wanking from their guitarist who, to give him his due, turns out to be very good at dressing up and spreading his legs just like Slash.
Cue the first wave of obscenities and projectiles.
From there on, it gets worse. Or better. Depending on your perspective.
After the band storms offstage, the house lights came up and promoters tell the angry crowd that they're working hard to fix "technical difficulties."
They later come back out and admit they're trying to convince Axl not to go home.
Thousands of people reportedly do go home, failing to realize that the band will come out again after its half-hour, um, intermission.
Refunds will be distributed shortly after hell freezes over.
