Bakers, start your ovens

Posted By on Tue, Sep 7, 2010 at 11:00 AM

Get out your cake pans, cookbooks and favorite novel and start planning. Rockrimmon Library is having a Literary Cake Bake-Off from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 2.

Cakes must have a literary theme: think a large, colorful hat (for Alice in Wonderland's Mad Hatter), a whale spouting chocolate (Moby Dick, anyone?) or something Potter-rific (Wands? Owls? Lightning bolts?). I'd probably avoid tomes such as Lolita.

Youd definitely win if you reconstructed this Hogwarts cake by Charm City Cakes, for the Ace of Cakes television show.

Per the Pikes Peak Library District, the winners will take home the following prizes:

* First Place Winner: $60 Gift Certificate for the Olive Garden Italian Restaurant
* Second Place Winner: $40 Gift Certificate for Mimi’s Cafe
* Third Place Winner: $20 Gift Certificate for Oliver’s Deli
* There will be an additional prize for the one that has the best book tie-in.

Visit PPLD's blog for an entry form.

Don't bake? Drop by the library, help taste, and submit your selection for the People's Choice Award.

And while you're there ... don't have card? September is Library Card Sign-Up Month.
