First we get a full-length debut album of next-level "Zef" sounds, on a major label no less, from South Africa's Die Antwoord (and a great one it is).
And now, just in time for the month's happiest of holidays, comes a brand-new Crystal Castles video that's scary good.
For lack of a better label, the electronic duo/group/phenom sometimes gets tossed into the "witch house" genre — which, to the extent that it actually exists, mostly consists of white folks like Salem appropriating the "chopped and screwed" techniques of DJ Screw and cloaking them in the trappings of a latter-day Goth revival.
This is not that.
On "Baptism," Torontans Alice Glass and Ethan Kath combine Todd Terry-esque house beats, techno synth blasts and insanely shrill vocals that somehow manage to be oddly beguiling.
You'll most likely either love it or hate it, but I'm pretty sure it's a lot better than anything you'll hear on a Salem album. (BTW, for those who ARE trying to ween themselves off Salem, scroll down further for an awfully cute oOoOO fan video that just might help.)
