Inspired by the Metropolitan Opera's HD simulcast series, IndyBlog posted the Met's 2010-2011 season last February and was totally surprised that it remains our most e-mailed story.

So we figured we'd better let you know that this Saturday, Nov. 13, marks the Met's new season premiere with an 11 a.m. live screening of Donizetti's Don Pasquale at our local Tinseltown, Hollywood Interquest and Cinemark 16 theaters.

As if all that weren't enough (or even a little too much), an L.A. Times story yesterday broke the news that the Los Angeles Philharmonic is starting its own HD simulcast next month with a Jan. 9 program of works by Beethoven, Leonard Bernstein and John Adams. (The composer is also part of Met season with his Nixon in China.)

We're not sure how well classical music performances will translate to the big screen, especially in comparison to the Met's operatic audio-visual splendor. But since simulcasts of the latter typically sell out, the L.A. Philharmonic's venture may well be the beginning of a new trend.
