In the month of October, the city of Colorado Springs collected $54,905 in sales tax from marijuana businesses, a slight drop-off from the September collection of $56,922. For the year, a total of $379,548 has been collected; in all of last year, the city took in $59,962.

For comparison, the city of Fort Collins has collected roughly $209,000 all year from its dispensaries, says the Fort Collins Coloradoan.

About 75 percent of the sales-tax revenue has gone into the city's general fund, which pays for a variety of services, with the rest going toward areas funded by dedicated sales taxes - natural areas, capital improvements and pavement management.
