It was 35 years ago today that the Edmund Fitzgerald and its 29-man crew were sunk by a massive storm out on Lake Superior.
And it was one year later that Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot topped the charts with "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald," a song he's guaranteed to play when he comes to Pikes Peak Center next Monday, Nov. 15.
In honor of the above, here's a 1979 performance of the Lightfoot ballad, followed by a few more vintage shipwreck tunes from Procol Harum, Crack The Sky, and Woody Guthrie.
Be careful out there.
