Hoodwinked: Fever Ray plays uncertain role in Twilight director's next film

I've never really understood what Fever Ray songs or videos are about, apart from the fact that it must be something really creepy. So I wouldn't venture to say whether the band masterminded by Knife frontwoman Karin Dreijer Andersson will or will not be appearing in the much-anticipated Red Riding Hood film.

Director Catherine Hardwicke, of Twilight fame, apparently thinks so, based on the following quote from a a Tuesday Los Angeles Times interview:

"We commissioned this band from Sweden called Fever Ray. She’s always performing in radical costumes, she’s like the Lady Gaga of Sweden. In our movie she’s wearing a harvest mask with a corn husk face and she’s singing and everybody’s dancing and singing. Of course it all goes to hell soon enough but it’s fun for a while."

Maybe it was that "Lady Gaga of Sweden" line that didn't go over so well. Because yesterday, the Fever Ray website posted a statement suggesting just the opposite:

"To clarify some incorrect information that has been circulating on the web: there won’t in fact be a cameo performance from Karin Dreijer Andersson / Fever Ray in the film, and Karin co-wrote the song with her Fever Ray band members - Christoffer Berg, Van Rivers, The Subliminal Kid & Liliana Zavala - with no involvement from any other party."

What director and artist do agree upon is that a new Fever Ray song will feature prominently in the film, which is currently set for March release. In fact, you can hear it in the trailer below.

But don't stop there: While the trailer looks good, it can barely holds a candle to Fever Ray's decidedly disturbing video for "When I Grow Up," which made its way into our Most Memorable Songs of 2009 feature.
