I think not.
This year, remember to be thankful that you practice safe sex, understand how to prevent STDs, and get tested regularly. Sure, it may not be the typical dinner toast — and yes, Grandma may raise an eyebrow — but the truth is having the knowledge and self-respect to protect ourselves and others is worth a little appreciation.
There are other ways to celebrate World AIDS Day (Dec. 1) as well. Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains suggests you honor the day by getting tested. These days, an AIDS test at PP is a simple finger prick, and results are available in 12 minutes or less.
Another idea: Go to worldaidsday.org and check out their ideas. There's some great suggestions, including a Facebook campaign to raise awareness.
So have fun this holiday season ... and be safe!
