Guess who's legally armed!

Posted By on Mon, Dec 20, 2010 at 5:23 PM

What ought to be a handy tool for Colorado's police officers, the state's database of those permitted to carry concealed weapons, is not so much handy as it is dangerously misleading, so says a recent audit.

The Denver Post is reporting on the audit.

Colorado's concealed-weapons database does not contain information about 16,000 permits — 45 percent of those issued — partly because 20 counties, including Douglas and El Paso, don't enter the information with Colorado Crime Information Center.

According to the Post, 72 percent of the officers polled said that they used the database to see whether or not someone they might be chasing, arresting, or whatever cops do to bad guys, could be armed. So it might not be good that in thousands of instances the database is allegedly completely wrong.
