From scotch to Escoffier

A brief heads-up on some impending foodie events:

Modern chefs owe more to Auguste Escoffier than most people realize.
  • Escoffier: Modern chefs owe more to this man than most people realize.
• At 7:30 p.m. this Wednesday, Jan. 19, Amuzé at the FAC will host a four-course scotch-pairing dinner. Seats are $49.

Giuseppe's Old Depot Restaurant will host a five-course literary wine dinner featuring The Jungle Book, Saturday, Jan. 29 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Seats are $60.

• Catch the fifth annual Glass Slipper Ball, Saturday, Feb. 5, from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Seats are $100. Proceeds generated by this annual dine-and-dance benefit the Zonta Club of the Pikes Peak Area, which is part of a global organization dedicated to advancing the status of women.

• From Feb. 4 to 6, The Broadmoor will host the ninth annual Salute to Escoffier, which benefits the Colorado Restaurant Association and the hotel's Culinary Apprenticeship Program and Scholarship Fund.

Participation is limited to 250 people, and full packages that include accommodations for two nights, a Friday night reception, Saturday grand buffet, Sunday brunch and cooking demos and wine seminars cost $491 a head.

BUT ... for those dedicated foodies interested solely in the main attraction — the grand buffet from 6 p.m. to midnight on Saturday — there are a limited amount of tickets available for $180 plus tax/tip.

What that entails:

In honor of Escoffier, this stunning gourmet spectacle features a progressive dinner of five separate courses with more than one hundred delectable offerings, accompanied with fine wines and Champagnes to complement each course. Live entertainment by Broadmoor entertainers Ken Miller and Lila Mori, as well as a live and silent auction, add to the festivities of this grand event.
