Decemberists chosen for UCCS' spring concert

With last month's release of The King Is Dead, the Decemberists most likely became the first band to use the word "panoply" in a pop song since pioneering art-rockers Van der Graaf Generator did it back in the '70s. All of which makes them the most erudite and/or pretentious rock band of the last three decades (although Shriekback did come close in the '80s by rhyming "nemesis" with "parthenogenesis").

In any case, fans who don't get the chance to see Colin Meloy and his Portland compatriots when they come to the Ogden in Denver next Thursday can still dust off their dictionaries and catch them right here in riverless city, thanks to the pro-democracy enthusiasm of the UCCS students who voted for the Decemberists to play this year's spring concert.

Tickets go on sale March 1 for the April 16 concert, which will be held at the Gallogly Events Center. Students get in for $15, the rest of us for $20.
