Jason Doorenbos-Parry loves enforcing the law. The problem is, he's not a cop.
Doorenbos-Parry was convicted of impersonating a police officer last year and given a deferred sentence. Apparently, he hasn't been using his second chance very wisely.
Police believe Doorenbos-Parry has been hitting his imaginary beat hard lately. But they need to hear from members of the public who may have been approached by him.
Here's the information:
Saturday, February 5, 2011, 11:00 AM [RELEASE AT WILL]:
On 11/27/2010, Officer Armes from the Gold Hill Division of the Colorado Springs Police Department launched an investigation into the actions of security officers employed by Colorado Springs Security. CSPD had been receiving some information that the primary owner of the business, later identified as Jason Doorenbos-Parry, was driving a 1995 red, unmarked, 4-dr Mercury Mystique outfitted with flashing white and possibly blue LED lights. Some of the allegations reported indicated that Mr. Doorenbos-Parry was allegedly following and stopping motorists for traffic violations utilizing the equipment installed in his vehicle, contacting and “citing” persons for trespassing, and making “citizen’s arrests” at various locations around Colorado Springs. He was found to frequent the area of America the Beautiful Park and was possibly contacting and “citing” members of the homeless community for being in the park after hours.
During the next 10 weeks, Officer Armes along with Officers Bucksath and Chenoweth researched, conducted surveillance and compiled a case against Mr. Doorenbos-Parry. On 02/04/11, Officers obtained search warrants for his home and vehicle and both of those were executed on 02/05/11. Mr. Doorenbos-Parry was subsequently arrested for Impersonating a Peace Officer. He was found to be operating an unlicensed security company within the city limits, was not personally licensed as a security officer and was carrying equipment without proper certifications. He was patrolling business locations without having any paid contracts or permissions to provide services at those locations.
Mr. Doorenbos-Parry was convicted for Impersonating a Police Officer in early 2010 and is currently on a deferred sentence on that charge.
As a result of interviews conducted on 02/05/11, Officers found that Mr. Doorenbos-Parry had likely stopped, detained or cited citizens in vehicles or in person in Colorado Springs or the surrounding communities in a manner very similar to that of a sworn police officer. The investigating officers are concerned that many of these contacts were not reported and would like to encourage anyone who believes that they may have been contacted by Mr. Doorenbos-Parry in this manner to contact CSPD at 444-7000 to be scheduled to talk to an officer.
1995, Red, 4-dr, Mercury Mystique (looks similar to a 95 Ford Taurus or Contour)
White, Amber or possibly blue LED lights mounted to the front and rear dash, front bumper, upper windshield and upper back window area. The vehicle may have been equipped with a siren. The vehicle may have had a laptop computer mounted between the front seats.
Mr. Doorenbos-Parry is a white male, 25 years of age, approximately 5-10, 145lbs and was dressed in a security uniform similar to those worn by local police agencies. His uniform typically had blue Sergeant chevrons on the sleeves of his shirt and jacket.
Mr. Doorenbos-Parry’s photo is not being released at this time pending further investigation. He was booked into CJC on the charges of Possession of Weapons by a Previous Offender and Impersonation of a Peace Officer.
