'The times, they are a-changin'

Posted By on Mon, Mar 21, 2011 at 10:24 AM

While going through the Pikes Peak Library District's special collection of old photographs for an upcoming story, I came across some very cool photos.

First, my curiosity was piqued because some of them involve our building (and writers are nothing if not self-involved). But second, some of them give a great look at how much Colorado Springs has changed — the downtown area, in this particular instance — and how much it has stayed the same.

And since the city's about to shift its entire government and change again, I thought we should take a look back. So arts editor Edie Adelstein and I shot some photos this past weekend — amateur ones, for sure — in an attempt to compare and contrast at the intersection of Nevada Avenue and Vermijo Street, facing north (with the Independent building on the right). Look for more in the upcoming days.
