On the heels of the High Times Medical Cannabis Cup in Denver, Rob Tillery, co-organizer of the Best Meds contest, stopped by our offices on his way to dropping off judges' packs to the 19 participating medical marijuana centers.
For $50, a patient can buy a pack containing eight strains and judge each according to appearance, smell, taste, onset time, potency and length of effect. Each entry has an identifying number, and the marijuana may be consumed in any manner. In total, there are 44 strains distributed within 297 packs.
Here are some tips on what the budding connoisseur should look for at home, according to the instructions.
Appearance: "Look at the color, the structure and for the appearance of trichomes."
Smell: "Take the selection and break it apart, slightly crushing it. Scents sometimes range from sweet and flowery to spicy with earth tones."
Taste: "Upon inhaling and exhaling while medicating, examine the flavor the selection. Tastes sometimes range from sweet and sharp to spicy or bitter."
Awards will be given out on June 11 and 12 at the Green Leaf Expo at the Rustic Hills Event Center and all patients who participate in judging automatically receive a ticket.
