In today's news of the weird: City Hall is getting a 16-foot replica of the Statue of Liberty.

City spokesperson Sue Skiffington-Blumberg swears she's not yanking my chain on this one. Apparently, the statue used to sit outside City Hall more than a decade ago.

As far as we know, there are currently no plans to add a Sphinx or Eiffel Tower replica to downtown. I guess we can only hope.

Statue of Liberty coming to City Hall

There will be a crane at City Hall today from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and again from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. to install the Statue of Liberty on the front lawn. The pedestal base will be installed in the morning with Lady Liberty being placed in the afternoon.
The Statue of Liberty is being returned to City Hall where it stood for many years prior to the renovation of City Hall in 1999 and 2000. A formal dedication is planned by the organizations responsible for the renovation July 4th. For questions regarding the history of the statue or funding sources contact Randy Reed at 491-0943 or Stephanie Johnson at 339-7171.
