Campaigns picking up ballots? All good

Posted By on Tue, May 17, 2011 at 2:55 PM

UPDATE, 2:53 P.M.: Richard Skorman's campaign is making the same offer on its Facebook page.

——- ORIGINAL POST, 2:44 P.M. ——-

On the Steve Bach for Mayor Facebook page, there was an offer that some of our readers thought might be too good to be legal.

Bach's campaign is offering to pick up ballots for voters and deliver them to the polls. Despite some concern that political campaigns aren't allowed to ferry ballots, it is completely legal.

According to Mary Scott, senior specialist with the city, as long as the ballots are signed by the voter, it is OK for anyone — including a campaign worker — to deliver them to the polls. If a person drops off more than six ballots at a time, they have to fill in a log.

So there you go. Completely legal and a public service. If Bach wins, let's hope that his people keep up this level of civic outreach.
