Wanting to spend a night under Colorado rock walls while enjoying a film about dominating them? No, it's not Drive-In at Pikes Peak like the Flintstones movie, but movie night at CityROCK Climbing Center (21 N. Nevada Ave.) where they will feature the film Touching the Void Monday, June 13, beginning at 7 p.m. (Yes, you can lay on the beds below the rocks — and yes, I just wanted to extend the Flintstones reference for you movie buffs.)
Touching the Void chronicles the perilous trek of two climbers going up the Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. The film received an 8.0 out of 10 on IMDb, so it must be good.
Before the event, Pikes Peak Alpine School owner and chief guide Jamie Pierce will be sharing his experiences climbing and guiding through the Pikes Peak region and overseas.
According to a press release from the Pikes Peak Alpine School, Pierce has been a mountain guide since 1989.
His experience includes leading climbs and expeditions worldwide with over 2,500 days in the field guiding all disciplines including rock and ice climbing, and ski touring. From big walls in Yosemite, to ski tours of Europe, Canada and Alaska, over 23 expeditions to Africa climbing, 13 expeditions to Alaska including ascents of McKinley, Hunter, Huntington, Canada, France, Switzerland, Russia, New Zealand, Chile, Argentina, Bolivia, Uganda, Namibia, India, Tibet and many more, plus over 17 expeditions to Antarctica to name a few.
So yeah, this guy is kind of a big deal.
Additionally, the event is being co-sponsored by UpaDowna, which stands for “Up a Mountain Down a Beer," an outdoor adventure organization that works to connect people with outdoor sports in a non-intimidating way.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own food — and share, if so inclined.
Oh, and while we're at it, here's a little Flintstones clip for your weekend viewing pleasure:
It's TF/A-18. Navy bird.
this is my opinion. This coach is a member of what I call Christian supremacists,…
Actually, that looks like the twin-tail version of the F16 with the lower airscoop removed!…
