Mining Exchange Hotel draws closer to opening

Posted By on Thu, Jul 7, 2011 at 4:44 PM

I took a brief tour of the The Mining Exchange, A Wyndham Grand Hotel Wednesday with director of sales and marketing Erin Smith.

She said the project will likely be completed by around late October, realistically, though that date could move either earlier or later depending, of course, on how current renovations go.

The hotel was earlier predicted to open sometime this summer, but according to Smith, they hit a major snag in the design related to the elevators, which had to be moved due to some structural issues.

The marketing push has begun in earnest, though. Smith and crew have installed a sharp display in the window at the corner of Nevada and Pikes Peak avenues, which features archival images of the Mining Exchange building blended with renderings of what the new property will look like.

See the pics below, in addition to some shots I took inside what will be the grand ballroom once it's renovated:

The Mining Exchange will be the Springs first boutique hotel.

Dirt roads, but a structure built by gold.

Layers of history, as viewed through flooring.

Theres a lot to fix up before reaching the Wyndham Grand status.
