Republican independent candidate for Colorado's 5th Congressional District, announced Wednesday that he has signed on a veteran political aide, Jason Christensen.
If that name sounds familiar and yet out of context to you, it may be because Christensen has been best-known around here as CEO and president of Catholic Charities of Colorado Springs, which he led for three years before resigning last August.
Anderson's full press release:
Independent Candidate for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District, Dave Anderson, announced today the addition of former Republican Congressional Aide Jason Christensen to his Campaign Team.
“I could not be more pleased to welcome Jason to our team. He has two congressional campaign victories under his belt so he understands what it takes to win an election. Most importantly, he shares our deep concern over the problems facing our country and he has a desire to see America take up these challenges in a patriotic — not in a partisan — way,” said Anderson.
Christensen spent five (5) years as political director and later as a legislative aide to Representative Don Manzullo, a Republican from Illinois’ 16th Congressional District where he guided the campaign operation through victories in 1994 and 1996. Manzullo is in his eighth term as a member of Congress where he served as Chairman of the House Small Business Committee and is presently Co-Chairman of the House Manufacturing Caucus with Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH).
“It was an honor to work for Congressman Manzullo and I learned much from him. He has and continues to be a champion of the American manufacturer. For small businesses competing against foreign nations such as China and all their unfair trading practices, there’s no one who works harder for them than Congressman Manzullo,” said Christensen. “However, if we are to stop this slide of manufacturing job loss and restore our economic standing, we need to elect more Pro-American Job members of Congress like Congressman Manzullo and I believe Dave Anderson is exactly the person for Colorado’s 5th Congressional District to do that. I’m eager to get working on his campaign.”
Christensen, who has been active with Colorado Springs’ non-profits — including service as CEO for Catholic Charities — will provide direction on the overall campaign strategy and operations according to Anderson. “We are building a coalition of Republicans, Democrats and Independents among our supporters because our campaign is not about party; it’s about ensuring economic security and restoring American prosperity.”
