The El Paso County Clerk and Recorder’s Office is in the midst of a whirlwind of events, including a move from downtown to the Garden of the Gods corridor, the impending cutoff of voter registration, and getting ballots ready for the U.S. Postal Service.

The Nov. 1 election will be handled entirely by mail.

Alissa Vander Veen, Clerk and Recorder Wayne Williams' right-hand assistant, issued this advisory today:

Move Update—

The Elections Department has relocated to Citizens Service Center (CSC) at 1675 W. Garden of the Gods Road. The Elections Department, Clerk & Recorder Wayne Williams and other support staff are located on the second floor. Additional support departments and Clerk to the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) will be relocating to Citizens Service Center over the weekend of September 17. Motor Vehicle and Recording will be relocating the first part of October. The media is more than welcome to visit the new location and see the construction progress on the first floor. If you would like to visit CSC please contact Alissa Vander Veen at 719-351-9626 or AlissaVanderVeen@elpasoco.com.

Voter Registration—

Voter registration cut-off is less than 30 days away. Voters have until October 3, 2011 to register or update their voter registration in order to receive a ballot for the November 1, 2011 Coordinated Election. Please remind voters that this election will be an all mail ballot election and that only Active voters will receive a ballot. Our office notified 85,412 voters that their record was inactive and that in order to receive a ballot they needed to return the provided card to our office by the October 3 deadline. Out of the 85,412 cards mailed only 3,185 voters have returned them with updated information. 16,284 of the Cards have been returned as undeliverable by the Post Office. Voters can verify and update their voter registration at https://www.sos.state.co.us/Voter/secuRegVoterIntro.do. For questions regarding voter registration contact the Elections Department at 719-575-VOTE (8683) for more information.

Elections Update—

We are in the process of preparing to mail ballots to all Active registered voters on October 11, 2011. Uniformed Overseas Citizens (UOCAVA) ballots are scheduled to be mailed on September 16, 2011 to comply with the UMOVA bill. El Paso County has 11 School Districts, 5 Special Districts, 5 Municipalities including the City of Colorado Springs, and the State of Colorado participating in this election.
