Go the distance ... even longer now on the Monument Valley Trail

Anyone who jogs along Monument Valley Trail is about to get a city-induced boost to that training program.

Due to water and wastewater improvements, the trail will be closed with a detour set up, making the route much longer, although we're not sure how much distance the detour will add. Here's the map:

Colorado Springs Utilities crews will be working on the non-potable water system and wastewater creek crossing that spans over Monument Creek, CSU says in a press release.

Starting Monday the trail from America the Beautiful Park to just north of Bijou Street will be closed. Signs will direct trail users to detours. Work is slated to be completed Dec. 15, but additional work by the city's Parks Department of a foot bridge might extend the closure.

From the release:

The project is part of Colorado Springs Utilities’ overall commitment to improving and protecting are streams. Since 2004, Colorado Springs Utilities has invested more than $147 million on wastewater collection system maintenance and improvements — an investment that will total $250 million by 2018.
