Your weekend and beyond in food and drink

Weekly food and drink event update: Prepareth thine bib.

• As mentioned in this week's Side Dish, the second Breckenridge Craft Spirits Festival, or Still on the Hill, takes place from Friday, Oct. 7, through Sunday, Oct. 9, featuring a pub crawl, open house at Breckenridge Distillery, a grand tasting featuring small-batch spirits from Colorado distilleries and more.

But if you're looking for beer and spirits closer to home, hit up the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region's Pawtoberfest, beginning at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 8 in America the Beautiful Park. On hand: Roundhouse Spirits, Downslope Distilling, 303 Vodka/Rob's Mountain Gin, Pikes Peak Brewing, Sierra Nevada, KB Kraft Beers and Standard Sales.

• Catch a Homestead Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Good Earth Garden Center on Saturday, Oct. 8. Learn about raising your own chickens, goats, pigs and veggie beds as well as tips on solar and wind power generation. Also catch info on canning, cheese-making and more for self-reliance.

HuHot Mongolian Grill will try to raise $10,000 for The Home Front Cares between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10, by donating 100 percent of sales to the organization. Regularly on Mondays, 10 percent of sales is donated to them.

Savory Spice Shop will hold an autumn dessert class at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Oct. 10 with Susanna Holmes (think: pumpkin and apple sweets and cider drinks). Entry is $15. Then, on Monday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m., Angela Valencia of Tinta de Toro will teach a fall produce savory cooking class with wines paired by Vintages Wine and Spirits. Entry is $20.

The Margarita at PineCreek will host a winemaker's dinner at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 12 with Chile's Polkura Wines and winemaker Sven Bruchfeld. Seats are $55 plus tax/tip for six wine-paired courses.

• In celebration of its third anniversary, Vietnamese Garden is offering 30 percent off wine and beer between Oct. 15 and 31. The special between the 15th and 22nd will be fish in a clay pot, and special appetizers will be given to each table with the purchase of a regular entrée. Also, new hours of 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. have been posted for Sundays.

• The March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20 at the Antlers Hilton. Take a tour of last year's event here, to see several compelling reasons to attend. Seats are $150, with proceeds benefiting charitable work with mothers and premature babies.

• Attend the Galileo Greenhouse Garden Harvest Party from noon to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22 at the Galileo School of Math and Science. Pikes Peak Urban Gardens' Larry Stebbins will present a veggie gardening lecture, followed by a healthy cooking demo by District 11 chef Brian Axworthy and tours. Entry is free.

TAPAteria celebrates its one-year anniversary between Oct. 25 and 27 with music, wine flights and special tapas featuring a newly imported Spanish cheese line that owner Dave Brackett says gives his deli "the largest variety of Spanish cheeses in the mountain states."
