Following Moore as he exited Civic Center Park, Cassimy asks, "How are you helping these people with your $50 million?" Moore's responses become increasingly brusque: He expresses support for increased taxes on himself and others in his income bracket, insists that he doesn't have $50 million dollars, and essentially accuses the reporter of lying for a living.
The clip ends with some witty repartee between reporter and anchorman about whether Moore autographed Cassimy's copy of his book.
"He didn't seem too happy with a lot of the media that was out here asking him those questions," concludes the correspondent, although there's nothing in the clip to indicate that other reporters might have been taking the same line of inquiry.
I e-mailed Cassimy to ask if he was surprised by the reaction, and if he felt Moore's response about raising taxes addressed his question. I also asked if there was something more specific Cassimy was trying to get at — maybe whether Moore actively contributes to charities, or is somehow helping to fund the Occupy Wall Street movement itself.
Here is Cassimy's response to us, followed by the KCNC segment:
"Michael Moore openly stated that he 'does well' when I asked if he considered himself part of the 1%. So no I don't think he was trying to avoid that question. In my follow up question, I wanted to know how he was using his money to help the Occupy movement. I was doing my job as a journalist to ask tough questions like finding out if his reported $50 million net worth was accurate. I was shocked and surprised by his response calling me a member of the 'punk media' and a 'liar.'"
